During my years as an entrepreneurial inventor, I have had the opportunity to change directions many times. Each one of these new opportunities has arisen because of serendipity and what I call the ΓÇ£Stepping Stone Technique.ΓÇ¥ I envision career opportunities as large and small stones that rise up through the river of life, which I am crossing. Some people never have the courage to step from one stone to the next and end up standing in the same place for years. Others lose their balance on their one small stone and get washed away down the river, toward an unknown future for which they have no abilities and have made no preparations.
By using the Stepping Stone Technique, you can take control of your life and make a future that has great potential. You also can create fall back positions which you can rely on for income and contacts if things go wrong.
There are five basic stepping stones that you can create to give you more maneuvering room in your career as an entrepreneurial inventor. These steps are: (1) consulting, (2) writing, (3) research and development, (4) self-promotion, and (5) networking. Each of these steps is a pursuit with its own set of rewards and opportunities.
